PIGEON PEA VARIETIES WE EXPORT
Pigeon pea import from India includes various varieties of pigeon peas. The arhar exporter in India exports UPAS-120, IPCL 87, Pusa Ageti and other varieties of pigeon peas. The major varieties involved in the export of pigeon pea from India are.

1- UPAS-120 is known to be evolved at Pantnagar and is an extra early maturing selection. The plants of this variety of Pigeon Pea are medium tall, open and of semi-spreading type. Generally, it is yellow in color with red streaks on it. The seeds are small and light brown in color.

2- Pant A3 is a variety of pigeon peas that takes around 120-130 to mature after transplanting. These plants are semi-erect and determinate. Dwarf in size, these plants have 3-4 seeds per pod.

3- ICPL 87 is a short-duration, wilt-tolerant, high-yielding variety of pigeon pea. This variety is known to be suitable for both single and multiple harvest systems. It was released as the Pragati variety in the peninsular zone of India in 1986. It was developed by pedigree selection from a cross ICPX 73052 (T 21 x JA 277).

4- Pusa Ageti is another variety of pigeon pea. The plant is dwarf compact, determinate, and bold seeded. It has 4-5 seed pod potential and the average yield of this variety is around 2.5 t ha. The time to maturity is 150-160 days.

5- The Pusa 84 variety plants are usually medium tall and semi-spreading. The time to maturing is around 140-150 days for this variety of pigeon pea. Release in 1980, Pusa 84 plants are brown seeded.

6- The HY 3A plants are erect tall plants with green stems. They are white and bold seeded with an average yield of about 1.6-2.0 t ha. The time to maturity for these plants is around 160-170 days.

7- Gwalior 3 is a late-maturing variety of pigeon pea. The plants are usually tall and bushy. The stem of this variety is generally greenish-red in color. The grains of this plant are medium in size and light brown in color.

8- Laxmi is another variety of pigeon peas exported from India. This is a perennial variety and is semi-spreading. This variety is known to be tolerant to wilt and has a potential yield of around 2 t ha.

9- This BDN 1 variety is known to be moderately resistant to wilt and resistant to sterility mosaic. It was released for general cultivation in Western Maharashtra and Marathwada region for low rainfall areas, light, and medium soils. The genotype matures in around 150-155 days.
